On 11-12 December 2008 a very interesting Superyacht Event was hosted by THE YACHT REPORT GROUP: the Global Marine Marketing Forum.
The full program can be found here: http://www.superyachtevents.com/gmf/programme.asp
It has been an interesting event, especially in the light of the current financial crisis that is affecting every industrial sector.
It has been attended by many marketing and communication managers of shipyards, brokerage and charter companies. It was a splendid opportunity to network and exchange opinions over where the yachting sector is going to.
Personally, I identified a few stimulating ideas:
Marketing activities in the near future could take a rather defensive stance meaning that not much will be spent on external media. However, investments could be made taking the time to review past marketing activities and to plan for the future.
Budget crunch could also mean having to turn towards less expensive media: Internet and unconventional marketing. Get the Stories going, dump the hype!
Time is ripe also for online videos! Connection speeds are more than acceptable now and Google algorithms reward this medium too. Therefore, it would make sense to publish online all existing video material, possibly with just little tweaks in order to make them more Web usable.
For anybody who has not been able to attend and for those who attended but have not had the time to put together the gathered material from the forum, for dissemination within their own company, I prepared an (unofficial) abstract of all the speeches:
(It's a 282Kb PDF document)

Let me also remind you that transcriptions will be ready soon at the Superyacht Events Web site.
Enjoy!

Did people actually pay to get this advice? I knew that the yachting industry was 'immature' when it came to marketing - I didn't know that they knew nothing about the basics of branding.
If I had been in the audience I would have felt pretty patronised by some of these presentations.
